Development of Biochar production from agricultural and municipal biowastes

The 4th workshop held by WNRI

Biochar and pyrolysis - new opportunities for agronomy and climate change in western agriculture!

WNRI, the intermunicipal waste company in Sogn region, Simas IKS, and Kunnskapsparken Sogn og Fjordane had a workshop the 13th of August. The topic we discussed was how to develop biochar production from agricultural and municipal biowastes in the region. The biochar may be used for soil fertilizer and as a greenhouse gas (GHG) capturing measure.

The workshop took place in WNRIs facilities, 13th of August 2020.

In the workshop we discussed the possibility to develop a new circular value chain from biowaste in the region, by producing biochar from agricultural waste, garden waste and sludge in a novel facility in Sogndal municipality. Biochar may have a wide range of new uses for private and public actors in the region, such as soil improvers, feed additives for livestock, climate measures (carbon sequestration) or climate adaptation measures (water sequestration).
